Mary Martyn is the first known Negro nurse to apply for a job at Harborview County Hospital. She was denied employment.

Celestine Hodges Thomas met Anne Foy at Piedmont Sanatorium

Maxine Pitter Haynes received BS degree in sociology from University of Washington

Thelma Jacob Peynes returned to University of Washington to complete her BS degree

Gertrude Dawson first African-American RN hired at Group Health Hospital, first nurse manager at GHC

Ernestine Williams moved to GHC Hospital to work

1968

Mary Mahoney nurses organized their first professional workshop. Whites from colleges and universities in Seattle attended this event. This made Celestine Thomas extremely happy for it was the first time that whites attended an activity organized by this group.
