CONSTITUTION -- BY-LAWS
of
Mary Mahoney Registered Nurses Club
Seattle, Washington
1949

NAME:
The name of this Organization shall be the “Mary Mahoney Registered Nurses Club.”
PLACE OF BUSINESS:
The principal place of business of this Organization shall be at Seattle, Washington, and at such other places as may be designated by this Organization.
AIMS and OBJECTS:
The aims and objects of this Organization shall be:

To keep abreast of modern trends in nursing.

To interest more young women in the profession.
-
To participate in civic affairs.
-
To protect our gains we have made so far, professionally, socially, morally, spiritually, and economically.

To interest the general public in our problems.
OFFICERS ELECTIVE:
The elective officers of this Organization shall be President, Vice President, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, and Chairman of the legislative boards.
OFFICERS’ DUTIES:
President
The President shall preside at all meetings; she shall nominate members of all committees; she shall sign all vouchers properly made out and presented by the secretary. She shall countersign all checks properly made out and presented by the treasurer; she shall do all other things appertaining to her office.
Vice President
The Vice President shall act in the absence of the president as presiding officer of the meetings. She shall sign all vouchers and checks in the absence of the president.
Secretary
The Secretary shall keep an accurate record of the proceedings of the Organization; she shall collect all monies coming into the club from every source. She shall issue her vouchers for all monies paid out; she shall turn over to the treasurer all monies collected on behalf of the Organization and take from the treasurer a receipt for the same. She shall receive, read, and answer all correspondence unless other wise ordered.
Treasurer
The Treasurer shall receive all monies collected by the secretary and give her a receipt for the same, and place said monies in a depository designated by the Organization. She shall issue all checks of the Organization upon receipt of vouchers from the secretary properly made out and countersigned by the president. The treasurer shall be bonded as set forth by the Organization.
The Legislative Committee
It shall be the duty of this committee to assist the president in the orderly procedure during the regular meetings.
THE APPOINTIVE COMMITTEES:
The Appointive Committees shall be as follows:

Ways and Means Committee

Sick Committee

Publicity and Legislative Committee

Birthday Committee
COMMITTEE DUTIES:

The Ways and Means Committee shall supervise all programs and forms of entertainment.

The Sick Committee shall keep the club informed of all illnesses among its members and shall send gifts or cards as directed by the Organization.

The Publicity and Legislative Committee shall make all write-ups for newspapers and other forms of publication.
MEMBERSHIP QUALIFICATIONS:
Any Registered Nurse may make application into this Organization.
The requirements are:

The presentation of her State Board registration number and certificate.

She must have a good moral standing in the community.
ANNUAL ELECTION:
The annual election of this Organization shall be held in July of each year.
REGULAR MEETINGS:
The regular meetings of this organization shall be held on the first Saturday of each month.
SPECIAL MEETINGS:
The President or Secretary has the authority to contact members by phone concerning business matters arising between meetings. Special meetings may be called at anytime by the president. Any member may be asked to resign by presenting the written charge to the president and by two-thirds vote of the members present.
DUES:
The dues of this Organization shall be fifty (50) cents per month.
CLUB COLORS:
The club colors shall be yellow and turquoise.
CLUB FLOWER:
The club flower shall be a yellow rose.
AMENDMENTS:
These By-Laws may be amended by presentation of the amendment in writing and a majority vote of the members present at the following meeting, at which time said amendment is presented.
