Mentor: "Someone whose hindsight can become your foresight"
Many of our members were alive when our founders were denied jobs in their profession simply because of the color of their skin. Much has changed since this small handful of nurses in Seattle banded together to support African-American students in professional nursing, but the ever-evolving challenges that face those students remain as daunting as ever.
Perhaps the strongest benefit that the Mary Mahoney Professional Nurses Organization offers its members and scholarship winners, even stronger than the scholarships themselves, is the opportunity to work with our senior members as mentors. Perhaps the strongest benefit that the Mary Mahoney Professional Nurses Organization offers its members, even stronger than the professional fellowship itself, is the opportunity to serve as mentors to other members and to our scholarship winners.
